Ideal Candidates
- Licensed K–12 Spanish teachers currently working in schools
- Professionals in related fields who want advanced training in pedagogy and Spanish language and culture
- Educators with access to an instructional site to complete their applied research project
- Individuals comfortable engaging with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
- Students who are enthusiastic about strengthening their Spanish language skills and immersing themselves in Spanish culture
How to Apply
- Start your online application through the JMU Graduate School
- Upload your documents and materials
- Your recommenders will receive a link to submit their letters
- Pay the application fee
- The program reviews your file
- You will receive an admission decision by email
If you need a paper application as part of a disability accommodation, the Graduate School can assist you. International applicants are required to submit additional materials.
What You Need to Apply
- Resume or CV
- Personal Statement: Written in 50% Spanish and 50% English. Explain why you want to join this program and what you hope to achieve.
- Two Letters of Recommendation: These should come from people who know your academic, teaching, or professional work. They will upload their letters directly.
- One of the following proving Spanish Proficiency (B2 level)
- A language test confirming B2 Spanish under the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)
- Evidence that Spanish is your native language
- A Bachelor’s degree in Spanish
- Another B2 test
- Optional Video Response: You may include an optional 1–2 minute video answering: “¿Por qué quieres obtener esta maestría?” Not required, but a great way to show your personality and passion.
