A Max for Live audio device that impose a multi-band, third-octave filter complex upon all incoming audio that also doubles as a third-octave band spectral analyzer.

Filters

  • Bank of 30 third-octave band filters (8th order) corresponding to ANSI bands 14 to 43 (i.e., center frequencies of 25 to 20,000 Hz)
  • Variable amplitude per band from 0 to -120 dB
  • Amplitude can be assigned via MIDI controllable dials, manual entry, or text entry, or via mouse-click directly on the graph/display of the filters.
  • Amplitude can be assigned to a single band or all bands simultaneously.
  • Dry/wet control of mixed unfiltered v. filtered outputs
  • Gain control of final output (-30 to +90 dB) with peak limiting
  • Automatic gain compensation for signal loss from the filters
  • Banks of 50 presets (with assignable names) can be saved externally and imported.

Spectral Analyzer

  • Third-octave band analysis (30 filters, ANSI bands 14-43)
  • Variable analysis windowing between 5 and 2,000 ms
  • Analysis results display in the Max window and can be written to a text file.
  • Average analysis results are automatically ported to a text box and can be triggered to set the entire filter bank.

Software and System Recommendations

  • This device has been created for, and tested using, PCs only.
  • Initial development and testing has been limited to the latest 64-bit version ofMax. Users should be using a current licensed copy of AbletonLive in conjunction with MaxforLive. Minimum System Requirements: Windows operating systems (Windows 10 or later) with 8+ GB RAM

Installation Instructions

  • Download the needed file. This is a compressed .zip If this is labeled with an alternative extension (e.g., .jmu), then once the file has been downloaded, simply rename the file to have the ".zip" extension instead. Then extract the file to a temporary location on your computer.
  • Place the device file(s) (they have the extension .amxd) in the desired location, which could be in your Ableton Library, or alternatively, any folder where you choose to storeMaxforLive
