Biography

Dr. Schulte joins the core faculty with an emphasis on clinical supervision and training and is providing on-site clinical training at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) three days out of the week. He earned his Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology from Radford University, completed his pre-doctoral internship in Health Service Psychology at the University of Virginia's Counseling and Psychological Services, and completed his Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Mennonite University. Throughout his training and work experiences, Dr. Schulte has maintained an identity as a generalist practitioner of psychology. 

Most recently, Dr. Schulte completed comprehensive psychological evaluations across the life-span with a particular emphasis on evaluating neurodevelopmental disabilities for children, adolescents and adults. Previous training and work experiences include rural integrated care clinics, out-patient community mental health, college counseling, and private practice which has contributed to broad training competencies in individual, couples, and group therapy.

Scholarly Interests

Dr. Schulte has several areas of emerging research interest.  First and foremost, Dr. Schulte has broad interest in promoting clinical research through CAPS with an emphasis on improving outcomes in training, therapy, and psychological evaluations.  He also completed a qualitative dissertation on the intersection of Counseling Psychology and environmental climate change and continues to have on-going interest in integrating research into clinical practice.   

Emerging areas of interest include:

  • Clinical supervision and training
  • Therapeutic processes, interventions, and outcomes
  • Psychological testing methods and outcomes
  • Impact of physical environment on mental health (e.g., solastalgia)
  • Use of physical movement as prevention of and treatment for psychological distress
