Prospective Student Checklist

If you have any questions about the admissions process before you apply, help is available at (540) 568-6131. Contact the program directly regarding pre-requisites and specific questions about courses.

 Complete application.                          

                                                     

 If you experience difficulty with the online application form, you may click on the HELP LINK at the bottom of any page of the application.  If you receive no response after 24 hours, please call 503-973-5213 from 7AM-6PM Pacific Standard Time Monday through Friday.

  •  Send official transcripts to The Graduate School.  The preferred method is an electronic copy sent via eSCRIP-SAFE®Click here to view a list of participating institutions.

            If an electronic copy is not an option, unopened paper copies can be sent to:

Transcripts can be sent prior to submitting an application.

 JMU students do not need to send transcripts unless prior to 1996.

  • If applicable, send GRE/GMAT/TOEFL scores to code 5392.  Test scores can also be sent prior to submitting an application.

 When The Graduate School has received your application, all transcripts and test scores, these items are forwarded to the major department for review and decision.

Departments have up to 90 days to review an application and notify The Graduate School. You will be notified of your acceptance or rejection by letter from The Graduate School.

If you need to check if applications, transcripts and test scores are received, please email The Graduate School at grad@jmu.edu.

 Letters of recommendation, resumes, or personal statements are uploaded with the online application and sent to the program.  The Graduate School does not keep copies.  If you need to check the receipt of these items, please contact the program directly.

CollegeNET offers a social network for college students to discuss important topics. Over $3,000 in scholarships are awarded to student users each week. Students create profiles, write about the topics of their choice, and others vote on their favorites. Each week the student with the highest score wins a scholarship. The Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship program awards $330,000 annually to 56 Fellowship recipients (51 at $5,000 each and 5 at $15,000 each). The Fellowship program is designed to provide support to active Phi Kappa Phi members as they prepare to enter their first year of graduate study in the upcoming 2012-2013 academic year. 140 Love of Learning awards at $500 each are also funded each year to help fund post-baccalaureate students for active Phi Kappa Phi members.  Applications can be obtained from: www.phikappaphi.org/Web/Awards
