Technical Electives and Approved Elective Packages

Nine technical elective credits are part  of the BS in Engineering.  Students will  typically take these courses in the junior and senior year.

Technical elective requirements can be met in the following ways:

  1. Choose an approved minor:
  2. Choose an approved Career Pathway:

Career pathways are not minors or concentrations.  They are simply a list of classes offered at JMU, some in other majors, that we have clustered together based on a particular career interest.  Choosing nine credits in a career pathway will fulfill the Technical Elective requirement for the School of Engineering.  This is a growing list, so check back often for more pathways as they develop.

  3. If you wish to pursue technical electives from another area that has not been approved, you must complete the technical elective approval form and submit to Dr. Kolvoord for approval.  You must receive permission prior to enrolling in any non-approved course in order to receive credit for a technical elective.
