The Centennial Scholars Program (CSP) at James Madison University provides financial support to talented Pell grant-eligible students from the Commonwealth of Virginia with an emphasis on first-generation students or students with limited prior exposure to or knowledge of the college process. This highly competitive award is open to incoming first-year and transfer students as well as current JMU students.

The Centennial Scholars Program helps make a JMU education more accessible while providing the support students need to succeed. Through financial assistance, individualized mentorship, academic guidance, and opportunities for personal and professional growth, CSP gives Centennials a strong foundation for college and beyond.
CSP provides financial support to help cover the primary costs of attending JMU, including tuition & fees, housing, and a meal plan. The Centennial award combines federal Pell Grant funding with institutional grants, helping reduce financial barriers so Centennials can focus on their education and college experience.
Centennials receive structured support designed to help them develop effective academic habits and confidently navigate college. Study Hall, mentoring, workshops, and connections to campus resources help students strengthen the skills needed to succeed at JMU.
Centennials join a close-knit community of students, mentors, and staff who understand that navigating college is easier with people in your corner. Through shared experiences and program activities, students build meaningful relationships and a sense of belonging at JMU.
Every Centennial is paired with a mentor who offers consistent encouragement and individualized guidance. Mentors help students navigate academic challenges, establish goals, connect with resources, and adjust to different stages of college experience.
Through workshops, campus partnerships, and hands-on experiences, Centennials develop skills that extend beyond the classroom. Students explore career possibilities, strengthen financial knowledge, build confidence, and prepare for life after graduation.
Centennials are encouraged to use their strengths and interests to make a difference. Through ongoing community engagement and other experiential opportunities, students build relationships, develop valuable skills, and contribute to the broader community.
