Erica Lewis’s expertise centers on health care innovation, with a focus on innovation processes and the essential steps needed to drive transformative change in the health care sector. She advises educational institutions and nursing organizations on how to effectively incorporate design thinking into their operations and student learning experiences. She is co-author of a forthcoming book about building an experiential learning ecosystem on higher education campuses that leverages innovation methods.
Lewis is also a featured speaker in several videos on the Design for Health training site, a web-based platform created to teach nurses how to apply design thinking principles in practice. She has authored numerous articles on design thinking and its integration into nursing education and interdisciplinary coursework to enhance student learning, while also studying resulting learning outcomes.
Lewis earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Eastern Mennonite University, a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Virginia, and a doctorate in nursing from the University of Virginia. She trained in innovation at Stanford d.school as a teaching and learning fellow.
