Our Science Explorers Residential Camp provides hands-on learning opportunities to Rising 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th graders. We seek to grow leaders and problems solvers of tomorrow, by building knowledge and curiosity today!

Dates: July 19-25, 2020
Sunday evening check-in, Saturday morning check-out

Program Fee: $900.00

Students will be housed on the beautiful campus of James Madison University. Tuition will also include meals at our nationally ranked dining halls. Highlight will include a trip to the Washington DC Spy Museum (Forensic Workshop included) as well as a trip to SeaQuest to work in the Science lab. All trip expenses are included in the registration fee. Students will have the chance to visit the campus recreation center, watch a movie at JMU's Grafton-Stovall Theater, build in the 3D print lab, participate in various forensic and engineering STEM challenges, skype with scientist, as well as discover the variety of opportunities that JMU and it's facilities have to offer over the course of the week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will JMU provide any public safety for the duration of the program?

The program participants and program staff’s emergency contact information will be shared with the JMU Public Safety office so that the office is aware of who is on campus and where they are staying to provide the appropriate security.

Can I contact my participant during the program?

Parents and legal guardians will be able to contact the participants during the program, details of which will be provided in the confirmation email that is sent out closer to the camp start date.

Does the camp provide medical care or medical insurance?

No. Upon accepting the participant, a Medical Treatment Authorization form will be required by each program participant to provide the host with important medical information of the participant(s) as well as share important medical statements to parents and legal guardians.

My participant is a minor. Will he or she ever be unsupervised?

All programs will be supervised at all times by at least two or more authorized adults or by the minor’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) while on university property and any approved excursions.

Who will be staying with the participants overnight?

A staff member will reside in the housing unit with the minors during the program to provide appropriate levels of supervision.

How are camp counselors and authorized adults approved to work with minors?

All authorized adults participating in the program will need criminal background checks to be satisfactorily completed before being allowed to participate.
