SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Awards

Office of the Provost

James Madison University cultivates stellar talent through a variety of initiatives, including the Outstanding Faculty Awards (OFA) for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) along with the Dominion Foundation administer these awards and describes them as follows:

The Outstanding Faculty Awards are the Commonwealth's highest honor for faculty at Virginia's public and private colleges and universities. These awards recognize superior accomplishments in teaching, research, and public service.

Approximately 90 faculty members across the state were nominated this year and only thirteen were awarded the distinction. JMU is proud to announce that one of its own has been recognized as an Outstanding Faculty Member. Congratulations to:

  • Dr. William C. (Chris) Hughes, Professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy

In addition, three of JMU's faculty were considered finalists for the award. These faculty members placed among the top 20-25% in their respective categories at the peer review stage.

  • Dr. Theresa Clarke, Professor, Department of Marketing
  • Dr. Michael Deaton, Professor, Department of Integrated Science and Technology
  • Dr. Kristina Doubet, Associate Professor, Department of Middle, Secondary, and Mathematics Education
