Purpose
The purpose of the WRTC Graduate Alumni Advisory Board is to advise graduate faculty on industry, government, academic, and nonprofit best practices for curriculum development and student employment. The Advisory Board also helps forward the program’s mission to support students as they become writing professionals within the workplace and beyond.

Board Membership
Board Members are WRTC Graduate Program alumni with a minimum of two years post-graduate work experience. To maintain membership, Board Members commit to participating in one or more of the following each year:

  • Attend a Connect Event via Zoom once per year. This event, typically scheduled for fall or spring, creates opportunities for members and faculty to discuss best practices for curriculum development as well as strategies for aligning program learning outcomes with current workplace practices.

  • Engage with students in one activity per year. Engagement activities might include: one-on-one mentoring, serving as guest speaker, delivering a virtual roundtable, networking, visiting a WRTC class, collaborating with students, helping students with internship or job placements, etc. Board members work with the Graduate Program Director to identify relevant activities and discuss how such engagement can support both the program and the board member’s interests.

Advisory Board Award
Each year, a Board Member is selected for the “WRTC Outstanding Alumni Board Member Award.” Awardees are featured on the WRTC graduate website, on social media, and are invited to attend the annual WRTC Awards Ceremony in April.
