Target Audience: Individuals with supervisory responsibilities wanting to learn and practice leadership skills with other supervisors.

Series Description: The Leadership for Supervisors Series consists of six popular Training and Development Department leadership workshops. Each session focuses on a different leadership topic and will emphasize practial application for supervisors. The series is structured to allow networking and discussion of supervisory challenges as they pertain to each topic.

Managers, Supervisors and Leaders: What's the Difference?
How are managers, supervisors and leaders different? Are they different? In this session participants will explore the differences.

In this workshop participants will:

  • learn about the differences between managers, supervisors and leaders.
  • assess their management, supervision and leadership strengths.
  • identify their leadership values.
  • explore their own leadership philosophy.
  • develop a manager/supervisor/leader action plan.

Curse of the Vanishing Employees
After investing in recruiting and training employees, you certainly don't want them to disappear. It is happening too often and productivity suffers. Participants will study a typical organization where people are disappearing and those that are left are on their way out. They will then explore why high turnover may not be just an upper-management problem and discover five ways individual supervisors, managers and team members can make a difference between employees staying...and vanishing.

In this workshop participants will:
  • understand the importance of retaining employees.
  • learn the main reasons why employees stay with an organization or leave it.
  • understand how individual supervisors and managers can prevent job turnover, even though they may not control organizational policy.
  • determine the goals and values that make work worthwhile for their team members.
  • find ways to make their working environment one that motivates employees and inspires commitment.

The FISH! Philosophy
The FISH! Philosophy uses four principles to create a work environment where employees are alive, engaged and committed. These principles (Be There, Play, Make Their Day and Choose Your Attitude) focus on the idea that organizations are successful when each individual is successful. How does this happen? Well, you can start by having fun! As the creator of the philosophy states, "work made fun gets done".

Would I Follow Me?
If you could be on the receiving end of your own leadership style, how do you think you'd answer the question: Would I follow me? Most people in leadership positions are unaware of how people they lead really see them. But how a leader is perceived is crucial to the productivity of any group. In this session we will begin to explore the answer to this very important question.

In this workshop participants will:
  • define leadership.
  • describe positive leadership traits.
  • identify personal leadership behaviors.
  • identify personal leadership growth areas.
  • develop guidelines for creating a culture of inclusive leadership.

Jungle Escape
You and your team have just survived a crash-landing in a remote jungle and must build an escape helicopter using spare parts from the wreck. Can your team escape the jungle? This interactive session focuses on teamwork, planning, problem solving and decision making.

In this workshop participants will:
  • learn about team synergy.
  • discover the difference between Cohesive, Fragmented and Divergent teams.
  • learn nine key indicators of team effectiveness.
  • experience vital group-process skills such as problem solving and decision making.
  • understand the importance of balancing planning and implementation.
  • recognize the effect of individual behavior on group productivity.
  • develop action planning steps for better team performance.

Leading with Credibility
How can I be expected to lead if no one takes me seriously? The active, committed, and credible leadership of managers and supervisors represents one of the most important factors which contributes to the success of the organization. In this session, you will learn how to obtain and maintain the confidence of your team members while guiding your group on a path to success.
