Track: Diverse Faculty and Staff
Session Description: The Madison Caucus for Gender Equality updates the historic Faculty Women’s Caucus that was initiated in 1973 to address discrimination against women in the JMU workplace. The new caucus reaches out to all professional women and men on campus; understanding that gender based workplace bias affects not only women but men and families (parents, spouses, partners, and children) as well. Though the campus climate here has improved since the 1970s, several old concerns linger while surprising new ones have emerged. Last year, the steering committee sponsored a literature review of current best practices across higher education. This session will summarize the project findings, connect them to concerns raised by male and female faculty in the last COACHE survey, and solicit audience feedback regarding specific proposals for the future.
