Emotional Triggers: Harmless Intentions that Lead to Harmful Results

Course# TD1332

Note: This workshop is capped at 20 participants.

Categories: Diversity

Level: Fundamental

Pre-requisites: None

Target Audience: Individuals interested in exploring their emotional triggers.

Workshop Description: Emotional triggers are those words, statements and behaviors that leave you feeling angry, powerless, anxious or resentful. Although these emotional "buttons" may have been pressed unintentionally, our reactions are still the same. In this session, we will discuss our responsibilities when it comes to the management of these triggers. First, we will identify common triggers, especially those that are culturally charged, and then discuss ways to manage our own reactions when our triggers are, well, triggered.

In this workshop participants will:

  • gain a general understanding of the impact of emotional triggers on relationships.
  • understand common emotional triggers including some that are specific to culture, race, religion, etc.
  • develop a strategy for managing one’s own emotional triggers.
