Target Audience: Individuals interested in facets of educational technology for diverse populations.  

Workshop Description: For students with certain disability-related limitations, technology can be a double-edged sword.  While technology can facilitate access, it can also hinder it.  In this workshop we’ll look at the basics.  The challenge of accessibility engages all aspects of teaching—from physical accessibility of classrooms to captioning YouTube videos.  Professors and staff can begin implementing the concepts of Universal Design in small steps.  Nevertheless, the legal and ethical obligations of accessibility require JMU to take training in accessibility seriously.  We have many opportunities:  major technological transitions, like the shift to Cascade for web management and moving to the Canvas Learning Management System could allow JMU to implement new accessibility guidelines and training across campus.
