How am I Preparing Them and How do They Feel Prepared for Diversity?
Course# TD1333

NOTE: You must pre-register for lunch and each concurrent session you plan on attending.

The purpose of this panel is to serve as a springboard for dialogue on individuals' perception of preparedness for diversity. The panel, represented by members of the Diversity Council in the College of Education and Education students, will discuss initiatives created to promote cultural competence in the college and how those initiatives have been perceived in preparing future teachers to work with diversity in the classroom. Further, this panel will describe the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Career Development Academy at JMU and how it serves as a bridge between the James Madison University community and the local immigrant and refugee communities.

Our goal is to create a forum for dialogue between panelists and participants on the existing perceptions of faculty in their attempts to increase students' cultural competence and the perceptions of students regarding their preparedness to work with diverse groups.
