Field Hockey

Our mission is to provide an outlet for co-ed athletes to participate in the competitive sport of field hockey with an emphasis on teamwork, athletic ability and dedication.

We usually have about 35 members on our roster.

Our regular season starts on the first week of September and ends in November with the National Tournament. We usually play anywhere from 3-5 tournaments in the season, one of which is hosted here at JMU. Teams for the tournaments are selected by player's practice attendance, attitude, devotion, motivation, and focus. We also have a Spring season that starts at the end of February and continues until mid April. This season is primarily to keep players in shape and to have fun. We usually attend 1 - 2 tournaments in the Spring.

We participate in the National Field Hockey League with over 75 other colleges, specifically the Mason Dixon Division. Almost every year we qualify for the National Field Hockey Tournament located at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex, Virginia Beach, VA. Only the top 16 teams are given this opportunity, and the winner is awarded the national title. JMU Club Field Hockey last won the title in 2010.

Tryouts are only held in the beginning of Fall Semester and it is typically around the second or third week in September. Please check this web site around then for exact dates or attend the Student Org Night and stop by our table for information. We require all members to attend practice, participate in community service, and help fundraise for the team. We take these requirements seriously and expect all members to adhere to them. Our club team is very competitive and everyone must treat our rules and requirements seriously. Our dues are typically around $150 to $200 for the whole year. These dues are used to completely cover tournament fees, travel expenses, hotels, equipment, and many other expenses.

We practice four days per week. All practices are located on the field hockey and track complex by ISAT and Rose Library. We practice Monday through Thursday nights for two hours each night. All practices involve physical training, individual skill work, team drills, and scrimmaging.
