What Is The Substance Free Community?
Currently at JMU, we offer one special interest housing area for students interested in a Substance Free environment. The Substance Free Community is an exciting living opportunity for students who do not smoke, use or possess alcohol and/or other drugs. Students can be confident that this community will be free of alcohol and other drugs regardless of individual choices made by fellow residents.
Substance Free Community members for the 2012-2013 academic year:
- Sign a Substance Free housing agreement at check-in on move in day. (Please take a moment to view the Substance Free Housing Agreement)
- Live in a community of approximately 60 first-year students
- Live in or near the same residence hall
- Agree to keep their environment free of all types of smoke and/or tobacco products, alcohol, and illegal drugs at all times.
You have the opportunity to request a roommate but they must also apply to participate in the substance free environment.
