The Marketing Department at JMU

The mission of the Marketing Department is to prepare students for entry-level career positions by developing specialized skills in the management of customer relationships through the creation, communication, and delivery of value to customers.  Marketing students:   

  • develop in-depth knowledge on identifying, attracting, and evaluating customers; 
  • evaluate marketing alternatives and commit to a course of action, using financial, organizational, environmental and ethical criteria to guide decision-making;
  • learn and use information technology tools for customer research and strategic performance;
  • apply marketing skills, doing client-based projects, company internships, community service, and managing student organizations.

mma08.jpg·         Congratulations to the members of the Madison Marketing Association (MMA) for being named a "Distinguished Collegiate Chapter" for 2007-08 by the American Marketing Association. JMU was selected as one of four finalists from over 400 chapters nationwide.  Congratulations to Bob McMillen and all the MMA members!  

 

New Course Numbers

·         MKTG 382 is now MKTG 482 (Database Marketing).  If your academic plan required MKTG 382, register for MKTG 482 instead.  

·         MKTG 484 is now MKTG 384 (Integrated Marketing Communications).  If your academic plan required MKTG 484, register for MKTG 384 instead.

·         MKTG 391 and 394 have been combined into a new course and is now MKTG 440 (Retail Strategy and Buying).

·        Questions about these courses should be directed to Ms. Marsha Shenk, Academic Services Center Marketing Advisor, (shenkmm@jmu.edu), 540-568-8782.
