All symposium meals will be held in the Rose Library 3rd Floor Flex Space. We encourage staying for the scholarly talk or networking opportunites, but if preferred there are adjacent study lounges available.

Talking Scholarship with the Provost, 
Rose Library Third Floor Flex Space

Provost Heather Coltman will kick off the annual January Symposium with opening remarks concerning scholarship. Dr. Coltman, who joined JMU in July of 2017, is a solo and collaborative concert pianist with 15 years in academic administrative experience. She holds a BA in music from the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, a master’s degree in music from Mannes College of Music in New York, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas. She has performed, taught and lectured across five continents, and is featured on numerous critically acclaimed compact disc recordings.

Conference Lunch 12:00-1:15 PM

Scholarly Networking Lunch, 
Rose Library Third Floor Flex Space

This networking lunch will serve as a community-building event at the 2018 January Symposium. Participants will choose seating based on topics posts on each table including the following: diversity and scholarship; scholarly productivity; collaboration and scholarship; engaged/engagement scholarship; scholarly skill development and interrogating teaching, scholarship and career aspirations. Participants will share a meal with colleagues from across campus interested in similar topics.
