Department of Early, Elementary & Reading Education (1000167) - Account receives gifts for the purpose of supporting the department of Early, Elementary, and Reading Education, a department that offers graduate and undergraduate programs in literacy, early, and elementary education that are approved by the Virginia Department of Education and accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. All programs have an extensive fieldwork component that assures students varied opportunities for experiences working with children and families. The department also operates the Young Children's Program, a laboratory preschool for three and four year olds. The Reading Center, a collection of current children's literature, supports all professional education licensure programs. Programs and faculty are housed in Memorial Hall.
Young Children’s Program (1000415) - Account receives gifts for the purpose of supporting the Young Children's Program, an early learning program operated by the James Madison University College of Education. Its curriculum, environment, and organization are based on professional standards and research related to the learning and development of young children. The program operates daily with a morning session for three-year-olds and an afternoon session for four-year-olds. Each class is led by a master teacher and a support staff of students. In addition to providing a quality educational experience for children and their families, the Young Children's Program serves as a laboratory site for JMU teacher education students. They provide assistance to the teachers and individual attention in ways that are positive and supportive to children. The YCP also serves as a setting for professional observation and research within the University community. The YCP is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and licensed as a child care facility by the Virginia Department of Social Services.
Learning, Technology & Leadership Education Dept. (1000268) - Account receives gifts for the purpose of supporting the College of Education’s Learning, Technology and Leadership Education department. This department is one of five departments comprising the college. The Learning, Technology and Leadership Education Department houses six programs or areas of study: Educational Foundations, Educational Leadership, Educational Technology, Human Resource Development, Adult Education/Human Resource Development and the ESOL Career Development Academy. The Department also assists with the 21st Century Community Learning Centers outlined by the US Department of Education. The Harrisonburg group is called NETT. The Learning, Technology and Leadership Education Department unites expertise and resources necessary for learning across the lifespan. Programs within our department meet the needs of teacher education and provide grounding for persons entering or advancing in positions associated with learning and leadership in education, business, industry, government, and other public and private sector organizations.
Department of Middle, Secondary & Mathematics Education (1000290) -Account receives gifts for the purpose of supporting the department of Middle, Secondary, and Mathematics Education. The undergraduate pre-professional program in middle education is designed to prepare teachers of grades 6-8. This program provides the requisite course offerings and experiences that form the foundation for admission to the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program.
Military Science Department (1000291) - Account receives gifts for the purpose of supporting the James Madison University Army ROTC Duke Battalion. Their mission is to recruit, develop, educate, and provide quality leadership training aligned with the Army’s core values of character development. Additionally, their mission is to motivate young people to be better citizens who are committed to lifelong service to their communities and nation.
Department of Exceptional Education (1000379) - Account receives gifts for the purpose of supporting James Madison University's Exceptional Education Department, a department committed to the preparation of educators and others who teach and serve individuals with exceptionalities, and their families in a diverse society. We recognize and support the professional development of our students as a life-long endeavor and our programs are designed to develop and enhance each student's personal and professional growth as an effective, reflective, resilient educator.
Education Programs (1000363) - The account receives gifts for the purpose of supporting students and faculty within the Education Programs. These gifts are truly valuable because they grant Education Programs the flexibility to allocate funds to the areas with the most need.
Educational Technology and Media Center (1000170) - Account receives gifts for the purpose of supporting the Educational Technology & Media Center (ETMC), a center committed to preparing all students in the College of Education and Professional Education Unit to be knowledgeable users of educational technology. Serving the College of Education and the Professional Education Unit, the ETMC promotes the use of emerging technologies for learning and is responsive to educational technology needs of faculty and students in these programs.
