Graduate Catalog

Your Graduate Catalog is the one published for the year in which you began your program of study. Your academic records will be audited by the Graduate School at program completion using your catalog. Curricular requirements differ for students who entered before and after the Fall 2016 semester.

General Expectations
  • All graduate students – whether in an M. Ed. or graduate Certificate program - are held to academic policies and general regulations posted in the Graduate Catalog.
    • All students complete an initial portfolio in the LTLE 570 OP course. Students add artifacts and reflections to their portfolio every semester; and their progress is monitored by each instructor as they move through the program. In this way the portfolio is a developmental indicator of progress.
  • The M. Ed. and graduate Certificate handbooks are posted in Canvas. Students are responsible for reading, referring to, and understanding the contents of their handbook.
  • All graduate students are expected to purchase and maintain a subscription to Adobe CC software for students (look for discount). Students are also expected to maintain access to Microsoft Office applications and SSLVPN software, provided free-of-charge by JMU Computing.
  • Students are expected to adhere to the Student Dispositions Policy.
Course Enrollment Procedures
  1. Review the Pathways Document to see which classes to take next, and to know when courses are typically offered.
  2. If needed, confirm your academic progress by referring to MyMadison for your unofficial transcripts.
  3. See courses offered by visiting the Outreach website. Scroll to the bottom to find the upcoming semester courses linked in the Quick Links area. Type your course name in the search bar to find it, and make note of course details.
  4. Your adviser will send you an advising email before the semester. Check your JMU email account for this message. Plan to enroll in the courses into which you are advised; or, if you have questions or changes based on your own planning, email your adviser in a timely manner.
  5. At least two weeks before each semester begins, email your course enrollment requests to Ms. Kila Posey (, Enrollment Counselor. Always request courses that end in “OP”. Do NOT enroll in courses through MyMadison. Ms. Posey will enroll you in your courses. Please also email her should you need to drop a course.

All courses and course materials are currently delivered in English using the Canvas learning management system. Courses are offered entirely online, from 5:45pm-8:15pm ET/EST/EDT on weekdays.
