Description of the Major
The School of Theatre and Dance program combines the best attributes of a liberal arts education and professional arts training. Students concentrate in theatre, musical theatre, or dance and study with a faculty of working professionals who give personal attention to every student. With a wide range of performance opportunities, one of the distinctive features of the School of Theatre and Dance is the emphasis it places on student generated work in the Experimental Theatre and Dance Studio productions.

Declaring the Major
New Freshmen and Transfer Students
New freshmen and transfer students declare Theatre and Dance as your major when you register for orientation; declare a concentration in theatre, musical theatre or dance.
Currently Enrolled Major Changers
You should submit a "Change or Declaration of Major” form to the Theatre and Dance school director in the Theatre II building, room 8.
Students interested in the dance concentration must contact the department for an audition and must have dancing aptitudes.
Students interested in the musical theatre concentration must contact the department for an audition and must have musical, dancing and acting aptitudes. Students are admitted on a space available basis.
Students interested in declaring a concentration in theatre are encouraged to contact the department for an audition. An audition is recommended and voluntary (not required) to assist with student placement and advising.
Progressing in the Major
A grade of at least a “C-“must be earned in all courses that apply to the theatre and dance major.
