Why is a general education program useful?
A trip to the Caribbean! Dr. Mike Renfroe was among the faculty who received Study Abroad-Gen Ed (SAGE) grants last summer. His funds allowed him to travel to St. Croix to develop a version of the GBIO 103 course he offers on main campus. A repeat visitor to the island, he says teaching there in Summer 2015 “will provide students an opportunity to explore biology in a unique outdoor laboratory.” Students will explore coral reefs, mangrove forests, and nature preserves with unusual species. To broaden these field experiences, they will also learn about the culture and history of the island and its people. To apply, visit the OIP website at: http://www.jmu.edu/international/abroad/programs/jmu-st-croix-gbio.shtml. For info about the SAGE program, see the faculty link, at left.
