Happenings in LLI
School of Professional & Continuing Education (SPCE)Summer Happenings
It was an incredibly busy and successful summer for the JMU Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI)! Summers tend to be quiet at JMU LLI, but we didn't want to miss out on some summer learning and fun! We had three events that allowed members to explore all that summer has to offer in Harrisonburg and get stay connect:
- Meetup at Pale Fire where we got a tour of the brewery on brewing day.
- Sweet morning with tea and kittens at Aristocat Cafe.
- Night at the diamond with the Harrisonburg Turks - where the home team won!
Thanks to all LLI members for their interest and participation, and to members of the Harrisonburg community for hosting an exciting summer of continued learning.
Fall in Full Swing…
Our fall semester kicked off with the biggest Open House ever! Nearly 50 instructors presented their classes for over 400 LLI members. This event was just the start on an amazing fall semester that has seen so many incredible classes from watercolor to e-commerce crime, a class on the city of Petra to conversational Spanish. Meanwhile, our volunteer committees have been hard at work planning for Spring of 2026 already!
Stay connected with LLI for upcoming courses, events, and other opportunities to stay engaged.

This fall, while we said goodbye to Justin Whetzel, LLI Program Coordinator, we also welcomed three new Federal Work Study Students to help visitors to the Ice House! If you venture up to the 3rd Floor, make sure to say hello to our students!
