CGE Launches New Global Reach Interactive Map

News

The Center for Global Engagement (CGE) is excited to announce the launch of JMU’s new Global Reach interactive map, an engaging digital tool that showcases the breadth and depth of the university’s international programming. Comprising data from Study Abroad, international students, and global partnerships, the map provides a comprehensive view of JMU’s worldwide footprint and highlights CGE’s role as the central hub for global engagement across campus.

The map was developed through a collaborative effort led by CGE in partnership with Stephanie Stevens, Data Engineer for Planning, Analytics, and Institutional Research and CGE Faculty Associate, and JMU’s Digital Marketing team. Stevens, the lead designer on the project, was able to use the data visualization tool Tableau to create a map that allows users to explore and filter global engagement data. “The creation of the Global Reach map was such a rewarding and fun project” Stephens said, “The interactive map is a great example of what is possible through collaboration, and we were able to create a cohesive visualization that tells the story of the Center for Global Engagement's engagement and impact across the globe.”

Data has always been a crucial aspect of CGE’s strategic planning and decision-making, and this map gives a unique perspective on the collective impact of JMU’s global work. “Collecting and visualizing this data has been an ongoing priority” said CGE Executive Director JY Zhou. She continued, “We hope this map will serve as a resource for the campus community, spark new ideas, strengthen international partnerships, and inspire deeper engagement with JMU’s global programs.”

CGE will update the map annually to reflect new international programs, partnerships, and activities. As part of our ongoing effort, we invite members of the campus community to share information about any international initiatives that may not yet be represented by contacting cge@jmu.edu. These contributions will help ensure the map remains a living resource that reflects the full scope of JMU’s global connections.
