Summer 2021 Counseling Center Services

News

Our Center is here to provide support.

Starting Summer 2021, the CC will be primarily offering services to students who can attend initial and ongoing appointments at the Counseling Center. Following CDC & JMU guidelines, along with VA mandates, the CC will continue to offer our services via encrypted telehealth. We are working to return to in-person services as soon as we are permitted to do so.

In order to access services at the Counseling Center a student needs to be enrolled in summer classes. If a student is not currently enrolled in summer courses, we encourage you to contact the Center for a consultation with one of our clinicians to discuss treatment options.

How to Get Connected:

To first access our services, visit our Center during walk-in hours, 11 AM to 2 PM, Monday – Thursday. Students can check-in at the front desk, and then will be directed to one of the Counseling Center’s offices to complete paperwork and connect with a Clinician using telehealth video conferencing

If a student is unable to come to the Counseling Center (e.g. outside of Rockingham Co., quarantined, registered with the Office of Disability Services as being a student with a health condition that would make a visit with us unsafe) that student can call us (540-568-6552) to complete a phone consultation about recommendations for seeking support services and/or may be directed to complete the process remotely. If a student is currently outside of the state of Virginia, he/she/they can contact the Center for a consultation call regarding current needs and referral recommendations.

JMU students experiencing a mental health emergency (e.g. suicidal or homicidal thoughts or actions, sexual assault or other significant trauma) can access crisis support services Monday- Thursday 8am-5pm, & Friday, 8am-12pm by visiting and/or calling our Center (540-568-6552). After regular business hours or on weekends: please call the Counseling Center at 540-568-6552 and select “Option 1” to connect to the after-hours crisis line.
