New Teams Features to Start 2023

Information Technology-Computing

Check out some great new features in Microsoft Teams as we kick off the new year!

Microsoft plans to release significant changes to your Teams experience in 2023, and this is the first batch of them that are available for use here at JMU.

Scheduled Send in Chat

(Desktop only)

Users can now delay chat messages for delivery, similar to scheduling send for an email. Simply right click the paper airplane icon when sending a message to select a scheduling option. Left click the paper airplane as you normally would to send the scheduled message, and you will see it appear in the chat window as a queued message.

Note: this is only available for chat at this time and is not available for posts inside of a Teams channel.

Expanded Reactions in Chat and Conversations

(Desktop, Web, iOS, Android)

The entire collection of emojis used in creating messages can now also be used as reactions to messages. This one does apply to both chat and posts made in conversations on Teams Channels.  When reacting to a message, click the white/grey icon to the left of the ellipsis to open up the full selection of reactions to choose from.

Video Clips in Chat

(Desktop, Mac, Web, iOS, Android)

You can now record short, lightweight video clips of 1 minute or less to send in chat. Click the camera icon to the left of the paper airplane icon to record, review, and send your video message.

Note: this is only available for chat at this time and is not available for posts inside of a Teams channel.
