Cybersecurity expert raises concern after AWS shutdown
Computer ScienceIn October, the Amazon Web Services outage disrupted many online services, prompting cybersecurity concerns about our reliance on a small number of major cloud providers. In an interview with WHSV, Dr. Ahmad Salman, an information technology professor at James Madison University, said the issue stemmed from a technical problem linking DNS names to IP addresses in a Virginia data center. He noted that when a major provider goes down, the effects spread quickly across systems and services. Salman urges the federal government to build stronger contingency plans, especially as cybersecurity threats continue to grow.
