Joey Powers of the College of Science and Mathematics and Megan Holland of the College of Integrated Science and Engineering were recognized as JMU Game Changers during the second quarter of Saturday's football game against Marshall University.

The Game Changer program recognizes faculty and staff members whose contributions make a meaningful impact on students, colleagues and the university community.

For the Department of Biology, Powers is the person faculty and students know they can count on.

An instructor and instrument supervisor in the biology department, Powers was nominated by College of Science and Mathematics Dean Samantha Prins for his exceptional support of research, instruction and day-to-day operations.

“Joey has provided incredible support for both faculty and students in the Department of Biology,” Prins said. “From assisting with the evaluation of potential research equipment purchases to coordinating with Facilities Services to repair various equipment, Joey is an MVP in Biology.”
In addition to supporting the department's research mission, Powers is an outstanding educator who trains and mentors hundreds of students conducting research in the biology building each year.
“Joey is a jack of all trades and a master of many,” Prins said.

Holland, academic advisor for engineering in the College of Integrated Science and Engineering, was nominated by Dean Grady Dixon for her commitment to student success and her ability to build strong relationships across the college.

“Megan is consistently praised by students, faculty and administrators for her professionalism and the strong relationships she builds across our programs,” Dixon said. “She listens, follows through, and is someone students and colleagues trust.”

Dixon noted that Holland combines a student-centered approach with a keen understanding of data and enrollment trends, helping the engineering department identify potential issues early and respond proactively.

“What sets her apart is how she pairs that student-centered approach with a sharp eye for data,” Dixon said. “She catches enrollment and advising issues early, helping the engineering department respond proactively and keep students on track.”

JMU Athletics recognizes Game Changer honorees at home football games throughout the season. The Game Changer program is presented by the financial advisers at Good Wealth Management, serving the Madison community.
