A new chapter for campus communications: Meet the updated JMU News

News

SUMMARY: JMU News is the university’s twice‑weekly newsletter designed to streamline campus communication by sharing key stories, updates and opportunities for faculty and staff while helping reduce overall email volume through JMU’s new communication platform.

University Communications hopes you have been enjoying JMU News, JMU’s bi-weekly newsletter. JMU News serves as the official source of information and announcements for all faculty and staff, similar to the way Dukes Weekly serves students. Its goal is to inform the campus of our community's successes and advancements, while also notifying community members of upcoming opportunities and impacts.

As part of Reengineering Madison, the university transitioned to a new Customer Relationship Management platform that also provides us with a new email communication tool. With this new tool and in coordination with the Communications Governance Committee, a primary focus is to reduce the large volume of emails sent to all faculty, staff and students, while better coordinating the workflow of email distribution across campus; while JMU News will appear in your mailbox more frequently, other bulk emails should begin to reduce.

JMU News is sent every Monday and Wednesday morning and is comprised of the following sections:

  • lead story, often highlighting student success, faculty and staff excellence and innovation, community and partnerships, and operational communications
  • Curated JMU stories, highlighting faculty, staff, student, alumni and community
  • Campus notices with informational updates, campus impacts, event promotions, etc.
  • External news articles about JMU, showing JMU’s broader impact
  • photo of the day, showing off our community and campus

Campus partners are invited to share unit, departmental and divisional news, announcements, events, etc., for consideration in JMU News.

A fillable form will soon be shared to submit these ideas or ask questions, but in the meantime, please email jmunews@jmu.edu with submission requests.

Most importantly, we ask for your continued patience and collaboration as we work through new systems and processes. If you have any questions or comments, please send them to us at jmunews@jmu.edu, and thanks for reading!
