James Madison University will recognize veterans of the armed forces, including the 7,085 service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Global War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, with an extensive Veterans Day flag display on the Quad.

Flags will be placed beginning at 6 a.m. and will be removed at 5 p.m. to honor flag etiquette.

Veterans Day commemorates and honors military service and marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918.

The annual display will be led by JMU’s Army ROTC with support from JMU's Air Force ROTC, JMU VALOR and the Student Veterans Association. There will also be additional campus observances including Missing Man Tables at D-Hall and E-Hall in partnership with JMU Dining and JMU VALOR. Veterans will also be honored at the football game on Nov. 15, which will include the distribution of mini-American flags.
