JMU Health Update - March 11

Dear JMU Family,

Update on Cases
The university observed 14 new positive cases of COVID-19 at the University Health Center yesterday, putting the total number of active cases at 86. The number of open quarantine and isolation beds is 307 out of 434. More information can be found on the university’s Stop the Spread dashboard.

If you have had COVID-19 before, you can still get it again or be a carrier of the virus. All community members need to adhere to preventative measures such as mask-wearing, hand washing and physical distancing.

Vaccination Appointments
COVID-19 vaccine appointments are available to individuals ages 65 and older, as well as those ages 50 to 64 with high-risk medical conditions and/or disabilities, who live or work in the Central Shenandoah Health District. Vaccination is a personal choice; it is not mandatory. If you choose to receive the vaccine, we ask that you upload your completed vaccination record to the University Health Center secure patient portal on MyJMUChart.

A Gentle Reminder
The Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices would like to remind all students that they agreed to uphold their obligations to the health and well-being of our community when they signed the spring Stop the Spread Agreement. Violations of this agreement will not be tolerated. If you choose to host or attend social gatherings with more than 10 people, to not use the LiveSafe App, to not wear a face covering, to not participate in surveillance testing, or to not practice physical distancing, you are choosing to accept consequences for those actions. If OSARP finds you responsible for violating the Stop the Spread Agreement, you will have a disciplinary record and face sanctions ranging from probation and educational programming to immediate suspension or expulsion from JMU.

A unique aspect of our COVID-19 dashboard is the JMU connection. Stop the Spread HELPline
If students and their families have questions and can’t readily find the answers in our FAQs, call the Stop the Spread HELPline, which is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The toll-free number is 888-886-3131. And don’t forget, many of your questions can be answered here. Call center agents also will be answering questions sent to covid19@jmu.edu, and you can submit questions via a form on the Stop the Spread site. Please note, the HELPline is not for reporting noncompliance with health guidance and the Stop the Spread Agreement signed by all students. Please use the LiveSafe app, which goes directly to the JMU Public Safety dispatch.
