2026 Preconference Offerings
Virginia Association of Driver Education and Traffic Safety (VADETS)
The registration process, for the on-site VADETS Conference on Sunday July 12, 2026 from 10:00 - 5:00 at James Madison University, is available on the VADETS - Join us website beginning March 9, 2026. The $80 registration fee ($70 for lifetime members) includes a one-year VADETS membership and the July 12th in-person conference (includes lunch). Recertification points will be awarded.
First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Training
Offered by Kelly Clark Kelly.clark@lcps.org will be leading this pre-institute session. It will be from 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00pm on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Strength Training in Physical Education: A Practical, Plug-and-Play Method
Do you want to create a well-rounded strength training program that includes progressive loading, balanced muscle growth, and exercises that build flexibility, endurance, and functional fitness. The program is designed for secondary physical educators who have limited access to weight equipment. The program is meant to be taught to secondary students who are in the early stages of muscular fitness and utilizes muscular strength activities that can be performed in a gym or multi-purpose room. We will be using bodyweight exercises, hand weights and resistance bands. At the end of this preconference session, you will learn how to create a program to use with your students. PE 101: Tips and Tricks for Making Teaching Easier
How does your year get started? How is the flow of your class instruction? Should I get the students to help get out my equipment or stage it ahead of time? How do you know if your students really know or can do what you think they can? This session is going to delve into the ways to structure your classroom that will enhance student engagement and delivery quality Physical Education instruction. Bicycle Education Certification Course
The Bike Safe, Bike Smart course certification will be offered with part of the class being on zoom prior to the Sunday at JMU. There will also be an online assignment that will need to be completed prior to the in person hands-on at JMU. The class will start promptly at 10 a.m. on July 12, 2026.
