Type: Single-Session Workshop

Pre-requisites: None

Target Audience: Supervisors interested in learning about substance abuse management.

Workshop Description: Supervisors have a responsibility to maintain a safe and productive working environment for employees. Employees who come to work under the influence of alcohol or other drugs can reduce the safety of the workplace and the productivity of our workforce. Come to this training to learn more about what to do when you observe an employee who is displaying impairment in the workplace from the use of alcohol or other drugs.

This training will assist supervisors in learning how to:

  • Recognize behaviors that may indicate impairment from alcohol or drug use.
  • Work effectively with their HR Service Center Representative to develop a plan of action when impairment is observed.
  • Identify performance problems and handle potential crisis situations.
  • Make referrals to appropriate agencies for evaluation and treatment.

This training is designed to comply with JMU Policy #1110 - Alcohol and Other Drugs. All supervisors are strongly encouraged to attend.
