Total Series Time: 7.5 Hours (one 1 1/2 hour workshop & three 2-hour workshops)

Make-Ups: No make-ups are scheduled for this series.

Target Audience: Individuals interested in learning how to be safe at work and at home.

Workshop Description: Buyer Beware! How do you figure out what is safe and what isn't? In this workshop participants will learn how to identify scams, how to prevent fraud and how to protect themselves.


Session Two: Internet Safety, Course# TD1369

Presented by: Darlene Quackenbush, Planning/Info Security Officer

Workshop Description: Are you protecting your identity and protecting JMU while using the Internet? Can you recognize a phishing email? Spamming on your email account? Do you know what your kids are doing on your home computer? These topics and more will be covered at this workshop.


Session Three: Campus Safety, Course# TD1263
Monday, October 28, 2013, 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM, Wine-Price

Presented by: Kevin Lanoue, Crime Analyst/Emergency Management Specialist

Workshop description: An overview of safety at work. Topics of discussion will range from general safety tips, recognizing danger and having a plan of action, to specific topics covering irate customers, threatening phone calls and e-mails, fire alarms, etc.


Session Four: Sexual Assault Prevention, Course# TD1371

Workshop description: Sexual assault happens on college campuses nation-wide. In fact, college females are at the highest risk for being sexually assaulted than all others in the population. What happens when a student you know has been sexually assaulted? Come learn common emotional reactions to sexual assault, JMU policies and procedures for dealing with sexual assault, and resources on campus to help both you and the student with this issue.
