10 "Last Ditch Effort" Ways to Improve Your Grades
1. |
Take a study skills seminar or workshop...check with the Counseling and Student Development Center at x6552. |
2. |
Reduce your non-academic commitments such as part-time work hours per week and/or nights playing in the rock band. |
3. |
Get a few good, reliable study partners. |
4. |
Keep weekly (and daily) reports/journals of your progress. Where were you wasting time that could have been better spent on your academics? |
5. |
Improve your note taking skills...get a book or take a course at the Counseling and Student Development Center. You won't be sorry! |
6. |
Get a tutor, and tell him/her what your objectives are. Be prepared to work toward your goal! |
7. |
Take fewer (but greater than zero!) courses next term. |
8. |
Balance difficult courses with easier ones. Don't take too many writing intensive courses, reading intensive courses, or math/science intensive courses at the same time. Spread each kind out if you can. |
9. |
Tell your instructor you need help, and ask him/her to recommend supplementary materials (a more basic text, practice tests, office hour visits). |
10. |
Switch your major. Don't do this too often! People may start to worry about you, or you may run out of options! :) |
