e-Value8

“A profession unaware of its values has no identity; a profession that does not declare them and act on them has no integrity (Robert B. Young).” In support of this premise, the Value U Committee of the Student Affairs and University Planning division is providing members of the division with an inCRREDIBL opportunity to increase awareness of, support for, and alignment with the division's eight core values. One of the values will be highlighted each month in the manner you see below to facilitate greater focus on the individual values. We believe this monthly mailing will give individuals and departments the opportunity to e-Value8 alignment through discussion, reflection, and interaction. Four of the values will be highlighted from January through May, and the remaining four will be addressed September through December. To begin this inCRREDIBL journey, we'll focus on Collaboration.

  Collaboration

Collaboration involves all aspects of the community in the development and
implementation of institutional goals and reminds participants
of their common commitment to students and their learning.”

Charles Schroeder (Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs,
University of Missouri-Columbia)

We value working in a spirit of......... collaboration

Collaboration is working together, especially in joint intellectual effort; to collaborate is to create partnerships for the purpose of achieving organizational and educational goals. Examples of collaboration in action include:

  • Staff liaisons with academic colleges

  • Co-sponsorship of programs within the division and with other parts of the university

  • The sharing of resources, staff talents, and organizational best practices

  • Engagement in university wide programs such as new student orientation and admissions previews

e-Value8 your alignment as an

Individual

  • In what ways do I generally collaborate with others – within the department and beyond?
  • What have I done recently that demonstrates this value is important to me?
  • What have I done inadvertently to demonstrate this value is not important to me?
  • What do I need to do to more fully demonstrate this value?

e-Value8 your alignment as a

Department

  • How is our department collaborating with other departments within the division and with other parts of the university?
  • Are there other functions performed by the department that would benefit from working with another department?  What additional forms of collaboration would benefit student learning and development?
  • How does our department communicate between employees, departments, and divisions?   What more can be done to improve communication to make sure proper information is shared freely?
  • What policies, procedures, or guidelines do we or others believe inhibit our ability as a department to collaborate?
  • How does our department seek feedback on the quality of our collaborative efforts?
