Bridging the Valley: A STEP Ahead for STEM Majors
James Madison University has partnered with Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC), Bridgewater College (BC), Eastern Mennonite University (EMU), SRI Inc., and the Shenandoah Valley Partnership to address the challenges of building additional STEM major enrollments and retaining students to program completion. The National Science Foundation awarded the partners nearly $1.5 million to meet this goal.
The Center for STEM Education and Outreach
The Center for STEM Education and Outreach is a vehicle to coordinate and connect activities across our campus with partners in K-12 schools and others interested in STEM. Supporting faculty, staff, and students who focus on STEM, the Center sponsors events and activities to bring interested parties together and to feature best practices and innovations developed across the country in STEM Education. We also serve as an organizing point for large-scale projects on campus to help improve STEM education across the educational system.
One goal for the Center is to serve as a point of coordination and connection to the range of resources available at JMU - people, places, and curriculum. This website is the portal through which you can access many of these unique resources.
JMU has a long history with K-12 education. As we start our 2nd Century as an institution, we want to promote a focus on STEM education by offering opportunities for students, teachers and other interested parties to engage with these key areas and ultimately contribute to the national effort to improve STEM education.
