Which Residential Learning Community is for Me?

There are seven learning communities at JMU--each one has its own character and its own focus.  Click on the links below to see more information about the following communities:

Arts Learning Community: Encompassing all disciplines within the College of Visual and Performing Arts (all 3 schools and 4 disciplines), this community will focus on the artist as citizen leader and on creativity and interdisciplinary connections in the arts and throughout the university.   This is a great opportunity for all incoming artists and musicians.

Honors Learning Living & Learning Center: Connect with other Honors students in a variety of research and discovery activities.

Huber Learning Community: Interested in pre-professional health programs such as pre-dentistry, pre-forensic studies, pre-medicine, pre-occupational therapy, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, pre-physical therapy, pre-physician assistant or pre-veterinary medicine? You take seminar classes in both the fall and spring semesters that explore fundamental health issues and how they relate to a variety of health professions.

Madison Eco Learning Community: This is a residential learning community designed for first-year students who want to explore environmental issues and how to live more sustainably on the planet. Students will live in JMU's first LEED platinum building, Wayland Hall. Students take several classes together, develop outdoor skills through weekend recreational activities, and participate in community projects and field trips. All majors, including undecided students, are welcome.

Madison International Learning Community: Do you want to experience and learn about cultures, beliefs, and practices around the world? Would you like to make a real difference, both locally and globally? Through a wide range of activities, courses, and programs, Madison International provides an extraordinary opportunity for a diverse cohort of international and American student-residents to learn from and about each other in a dynamic and international residence hall located in the heart of JMU.

Psychology Learning Community: Students with a strong interest in psychology get a unique two-semester introduction to the field through tailor-made courses and experiences to help jump-start their major.

Roop Learning Community: If a teaching career in grades pre-K-12 is your plan, take science core classes together and volunteer in local schools.

Trelawny Learning Community: Are you interested in Biology? Want a chance to become involved in Biology research your first year and live with a small group that shares your interests? Check out the exciting opportunities in store for you with the Trelawny Learning Community!
