First Year Involvement

Visit the FYI Resource & Writing Center in Huffman Hall, Room A100. Our eight (8) Program Advisers (PAs) work with your RAs and Community Activities Board members to plan programs in your hall and other campus events. Five (5) Writing Tutors provide a peer review service for first year students with any of their writing concerns.

FYI also sponsors various academic support programs such as Graduation Club, Academic Support Instruction (ASI), and the Academic Mentor Program. For students looking for a little extra support with basic study skills, call FYI and sign up for an ASI session.

Also, look for The Spotlight, a monthly newsletter just for first-year students in your mailbox every month. Come by Huffman A100 to check us out or give us a call at 568-3598.

Roommates

When you first contact your roommate, consider the following:

  • Who is bringing the TV? Stereo? Refrigerator? Carpet?
  • When will you arrive?
  • What is your class schedule?
  • What are your interests?
  • Are you getting a loft?
  • Top or bottom bunk?
  • Are you a morning person or a night person?
  • What kind of music do you like?

All students must attend a program held in their hall where an agreement will be filled out with their roommate. Ask any of your hall staff members for the specific date and time that the program will be held in your hall.
