Purpose

 

Madison Transfer is a resource area dedicated to serving JMU's prospective, incoming, and currently enrolled transfer students. This resource area is staffed by students who have also transferred to JMU, therefore they are the 'resident experts' on the transfer process and are ready to be of service to those with questions.

 

 

History

 

Madison Transfer was opened in October 2006 in response to the increase in the JMU transfer student population. Recognizing that transfer students have different needs and concerns than first-year students, the university saw the need to offer programs and services specific to this population. Madison Transfer is a part of the JMU Orientation Office, thus providing an extension to the summer orientation experience by offering services to support students in their planning and transition to JMU.

 

 

The double-meaning of ANTS

 

Assisting New Transfer Students…it's what we do and it's who we are! The ANTS logo was created in 2003 to give an identity to what we do and our student staff. Thus, the ANTS logo has a double-meaning. On a daily basis, Madison Transfer collaborates with many other departments across campus, striving to make the transfer experience a smooth and seamless process. In addition to what we do here, the Orientation Office also hires ANTS, the student staff that works Transfer Summer Springboard. The ANTS staff is a great resource for incoming transfer students and their families, as they are also students that have transferred to JMU.

Madison Transfer kind of reminds you of Manhattan Transfer, right? In some ways the purpose of our office is analogous to a train ride. Madison Transfer is the train to get you to the right destination. Visiting our office is the beginning of your train ride. We will be able to answer most of your initial questions and though our Madison Transfer Assistants are experts at transitioning to JMU, sometimes your questions may require answers directly from the office that handles that particular issue or concern. And that's where the transfer (as in Madison Transfer) comes in! We will provide you with brochures and forms you may need to complete, but for your more specific questions we will 'transfer' you to the office that can address your question in more depth. If you find that you need more help from us, just hop back on the train and get off at Madison Transfer!
