The new Forbes Center for the Performing Arts at James Madison University will open its doors to the Harrisonburg community for an open house on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free of charge. Open house highlights include tours of the center's five performance spaces every 15 minutes, as well as periodic mini performances and educational workshops in the venues.
Guests can attend a mini dance performance and discussion on choreography; experience a JMU Brass Band mini concert and talk; see a musical review and learn about the magic of musical theater; enjoy a piano recital and learn about the design and construction of Steinway pianos; learn about theatrical design and construction; and learn about costumes through the ages. "James Madison" will make a special appearance and attendees can sign up to win free tickets to upcoming Forbes Center performances.
This is the second in a series of community open houses. The first open house was held on Sunday, Sept. 26, where nearly 1,000 people enjoyed the new facility.
