AFLAC Heisman Trophy Trailer on Campus

On Tuesday, August 30 take a moment out of your day to visit the Aflac Heisman Trophy Trailer which will be on campus from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Convocation Lot. Have your picture taken with the Heisman Trophy, while being surrounded by college football history. Employees and family members are welcome to tour the trailer during the specified times.

Save the Date because...Money Matters!!

On Monday, October 17 HR’s Benefits Team will host another biennial Money Matters financial seminar. Many great financial workshops will be offered throughout the day. In addition, vendors will be at the event and available to meet with you to discuss a variety of benefits available to you. More details will be sent in a bulk email in the next couple of weeks along with information on registering for the workshops through Talent Development. Go ahead and block some time on your calendar to participate in 2016’s  financial wellness event!

Classified Employee Performance Evaluations

It’s the time of year for supervisors to complete annual performance evaluations for non-probationary classified employees.  If you’re a supervisor of a classified non-probationary employee, please send the completed Annual Performance Evaluation Form and the employee’s Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) to Human Resources, MSC 7009, no later than Friday, September 30, 2016. 

As outlined in the Salary Administration Plan and Policy 1305 – Performance Evaluation for Classified Employees, there are five performance rating levels to choose from: Below Contributor, Moderate Contributor, Contributor, High Contributor and Extraordinary Contributor.  Ratings are contingent on continued performance for the duration of the performance cycle which officially ends October 24. 

*Please note: If rating an employee as an overall Extraordinary Contributor or Below Contributor, the Acknowledgement of Extraordinary Contribution or Notice of Improvement Needed (unless a Written Notice is on file) must be attached to the completed performance evaluation to support these overall ratings.  For ratings of “Below Contributor”, please contact your HR Consultant prior to the performance meeting for further guidance.

With a new academic year about to begin, it’s important to make sure that your data in MyMadison is up-to-date.  In particular, please review your emergency notification information. 

SharePoint users, here are a few tips to consider as we start a new school year:

  • Lynda.com provides a great overview of this powerful tool or you can visit  http://www.jmu.edu/computing/sharepoint/ to get started.
  • Document libraries have a new look.
  • Microsoft released a new mobile app for iOS.  You can take SharePoint with you anywhere.
  • Keep your SharePoint site clean! Review and remove any old, redundant, or trivial files that are no longer useful. It’s much easier for your team to find what they are looking for in SharePoint if you keep it clean.
  • Highly confidential data should never be stored in SharePoint.  Take a moment to review the data governance policy.

Trouble Remembering Your Security Question Responses When Logging in to MyMadison?

Have you ever had difficulty using your Security Questions to log in to MyMadison or to reset an expired or forgotten e-ID password? If so, we encourage you to setup the One Time Password (OTP) as another option. Rather than having to remember answers to your Security Questions, OTP allows you to receive a one-time validation code via text message to a mobile phone or an email to a non-JMU email account.

Follow these steps to set up your OTP information: 

  1. Log in to MyMadison.jmu.edu
  2. Click the MyAccounts tab
  3. Click Password Management
  4. Click Update your One Time Password (OTP) Reset Registration
  5. Select either the Mobile Phone option or the Email Address option
  6. Enter your information
  7. Click Continue
  8. Click Sign out to log out of MyMadison

Now try it out:

  1. Log in to MyMadison.jmu.edu with your e-ID and password
  2. On the Challenge page, select One Time Password Challenge and click Continue
  3. A 5-digit one-time password code will be sent to your phone or to your non-JMU email account, depending on the option you selected in step 5 above. Note: If you opted to have the code emailed, check your email from a different browser window or tab; do not close the MyMadison window
  4. Enter the 5-digit code into the Password: field and click enter

As we begin to gear up for the start of the 2016-17 academic year, please mark your calendars and plan to attend the annual President’s Address to the Staff on August 19, 9 – 10:30am in the Wilson Hall Auditorium. Coffee, hot chocolate, tea and juice will be served in front of Wilson Hall beginning at 8:30am.
