Dr. Alysia Davis is Director of Student Engagement in the JMU Honors College. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Economics in 1998 from Mercer University. She also received her Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis in 2000 from the University of Rochester and her Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies in 2013 from Emory University. Dr. Davis’s research focuses on gender issues in poverty and marriage policy, as well as the influence of social movements in policymaking.

Dr. Davis first arrived at JMU in 2007, teaching courses in Women’s and Gender Studies and Health Sciences. She also led a grant-funded early childhood program in the JMU Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services, and worked most recently to cultivate alumni engagement in the JMU Office of Alumni Relations. Dr. Davis is proud of her active involvement in the Harrisonburg community, and counts herself lucky that she and her family have the opportunity to thrive here.
