2009-2010 Student Insurance

Insurance through Academic HealthPlans

The JMU Health Center is pleased to announce that Academic HealthPlans has agreed to provide JMU students with Health Insurance and Dental Insurance for the academic year of 2009-2010.  

Dental Insurance is a separate policy with Delta Dental and is available for purchase through September 15th, 2009.

AHP is underwritten by ACE American Insurance Company and all claims for medical and prescription reimbursement are managed by Klais & Company, Inc.

Who can enroll?

Students taking six (6) or more credit hours are eligible to enroll in the insurance plan. Graduate students in the graduate program are eligible for coverage as long as they are enrolled and working toward completing their program. AHP may request a letter from the Graduate office confirming a student's enrollment status.

How do I enroll?

Complete an enrollment form on line at https://www.academichealthplans.com/jmu/
Or print out the enrollment form and submit by mail. Your premium payment must be received at the time you enroll in the Plan.

When do I enroll?

You can enroll in the Plan at any time for the various coverage periods. Your effective date of coverage begins the date the premium is received by the Company or its authorized representative, or the effective date of the coverage period, whichever is later.

Claims Reimbursement

Mail your medical and prescription bills to the to Klais & Company, Inc.  Make sure the following information is included with the bills (some of the information may be printed on the bills, others you may need to provide):

Patient Information:
  • Name
  • Date of Birth
Insured Student Information:
  • Name
  • Address
  • Social Security Number
  • Name of school student attends

File claims within 30 days of Injury or first treatment for a Sickness or as soon as reasonably possible. Bills should be received by the Company within 90 days of service. Bills submitted after one year will not be considered for payment except in the absence of legal capacity.
