Freshmen Scholarships Coordinated by the Office of Admission

All students offered admission to JMU will receive consideration for merit based scholarships. Because of the limited number of merit awards, selection for these scholarships is extremely competitive. The profiles of previous recipients included the following characteristics.
  • Challenging academic curriculums
  • Grade point averages of 4.0 or higher
  • SAT scores over 1300 or ACT scores over 29
In addition, students are evaluated on demonstrated leadership, community service, and/or unique talents.

To ensure consideration for all entering freshmen, the application for admission also serves as an application for scholarships. A student’s scholarship ranking or consideration status is not available prior to award announcements. Merit based scholarship awards will be mailed by April 10. You can review Freshmen Merit Scholarships through this web site. The majority of these awards are in the $500 to $2,000 range. Please note that your receipt of scholarship funds may reduce your eligibility for need based financial aid.
