INNOVATIVE DIVERSITY EFFORTS AWARD (IDEA) PROGRAM FOR SPRING 2013

THE OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT (OSAP) is pleased to announce a call for proposals to receive grants that will enhance the diversity.

The goal of this award is to provide funds to students, faculty and staff members who want to test innovative ideas and/or develop sustainable activities and projects that would enrich the diversity of JMU.

Awards of up to $4000 each will be made during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Individuals, departments, units or groups can submit proposals. The activities should be designed to enhance diversity in its broadest terms including socio-economic status and background, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, gender, age, disability, veteran/military service status, or any combination. Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that are creative and multidisciplinary.  Please be aware that applicants cannot use award money to pay themselves, that gifts for participants are not considered a legitimate expense, and that incomplete proposals will not be reviewed.

Application process: The complete application format form can be found HERE.

Applicants must submit an electronic copy of the completed proposal (in Word or PDF format) to the Office of Special Assistant to the President (diversity@jmu.edu) by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013.

Evaluation criteria: The selection committee appointed by the Special Assistant to the President will review applications. The factors that would be used to decide awardees include:

  • Originality
  • Impact of program on campus
  • Duration of activity or project
  • Feasibility
  • Sustainability and/or follow up activities

Grant recipients will be notified and announced no later than Monday, April 15. Applicants are encouraged to keep a copy of the application for their records as submissions will not be returned.
