The CSPA curated Professional Development program is designed to supplement our curriculum with a series of workshops on selected topics with identified outcomes. These interactive sessions blend theory and practice and introduce students to a variety of dynamic, higher educational professionals at JMU and within the region.

Our goal with professional development is to provide hands on training that helps students:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of goals and practice of higher education and the profession of student affairs including the theories of counseling, student development, student learning, and social identity.
  • Enhance students’ analytical skills, self-awareness, understanding of interacting with human differences, and integration of professional skills.

All full-time students participate in this semi-weekly series. An example of the fall program is available on our calendar.
