DUKE HALL

Duke Hall houses programs in art education, ceramics, fibers, foundations, metals and jewelry, painting and drawing, printmaking, and sculpture.

MEMORIAL HALL ARTS COMPLEX

Located just north of Memorial Hall, this building contains the photography program.  The photo facilities include a black and white darkroom that supports traditional, experimental and large format photography, a digital lab with large format printers is used for digital, color and mixed traditional-digital processes, and a separate space available for alternative processes exposing and printing. There is a general classroom with critique space and a finishing room with mat cutters and a drymount press. The studios are well equipped and support a creative approach to the use of photography, and additionally, a variety of cameras, including large format, digital and toy cameras, and lighting equipment is available for checkout.

STUDIO CENTER

Studio areas housed in the Studio Center are JMU’s Architectural Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and the Book Arts minor.  The Studio Center, a thoroughly modernized and renovated two-story warehouse of nearly 35,000 square feet, opened in the Fall of 2002. Located within 4-5 minute walking distance from Duke Hall, the Studio Center provides well-lit, specialized instructional spaces for design in an environment that meets today’s high standards for health and safety ventilation.

Faculty offices, and large exhibition and presentation/critique areas complete a building that offers current design students nearly unlimited access at any time of the day or night through an electonic card system.  Renovations were completed in December 2014.
