Practical hands-on experience in the field and/or laboratory is important content of laboratory based courses. Transfer credit for courses including laboratories will only be awarded for those having skill and application content comparable to that of JMU courses.
Courses designated as BIO 000 will count as hours toward graduation, but not as hours toward a biology major or minor.
1 First semester offered transfers as GSCI 003-GSCI 104 and the second as BIO 000.
2 GSCI 003 is the equivalent of GSCI 103. Credit may not be transferred by matriculated JMU students taking the VCCS course after entering JMU.
3 Effective Fall 2008. Prior to Fall 2008 entry, BIO 101 and BIO 102 could transfer as BIO 114 and 124. This alternative is eliminated for the future because the content of BIO 114 and 124 differs significantly from BIO 101 and BIO 102. e.g. BIO 114 and 124 does not include cell and molecular biology, the topic of BIO 214, which has a college chemistry pre-requisite. Transfer students interested in a Biology major should obtain credit for college chemistry (CHEM 111 and 112) pror to enrolling at JMU. Credit for BIO 101 and/or 102 may not be transferred by matriculated JMU students taking the VCCS course after entering JMU.
4 Credit may not be transferred by matriculated JMU students taking the VCCS course after entering JMU.
5 Student must complete both parts or the course transfers as elective.
